This year marks the 120th anniversary of Vogue‘s first-ever issue. Crazy, right? It doesn’t look a day over 15! (Kidding, 16. Hello, health initiative!)
So in honor of this massive achievement, the heralded fashion glossy has released a list of the 10 most prominently featured faces on its cover over the past 12 decades. We always love looking at retro Vogue covers and imagining a time when magazines cost only 30¢, so the compilation was a total treat to us (you can peep the slideshow here).
Behold, Vogue‘s most tried and true cover girls of all time:
1. Lauren Hutton, 26 covers
2. Jean Shrimpton, 20
3. Karen Graham, 20
4. Cindy Crawford, 18
5. Claudia Schiffer, 16
6. Jean Patchett, 16
7. Amber Valletta, 16
8. Veruschka, 12
9. Gisele Bündchen, 11
10. Kate Moss, 8
It’s interesting to note that every woman on the list is a model (as opposed to the actresses/musicians who tend to grace the glossy nowadays)–but it’s pretty alarming how little variety there is here. Lack of ethnic diversity on the covers of fashion publications has been a widely documented topic, but it’s particularly obvious in this click-through format. Also… Lauren Hutton gets 26 covers, and Kim Kardashian can’t even get one? Clearly, someone’s taste/priorities are askew.
